RJ11 Connectors And Telephone Interfaces Introduction
It is known that RJ11 is a universal telephone connector. In fact, it is the common name of a connector developed by Western Electric company in the United States at the very beginning. The former name is WExW, and the appearance is 6 pins.
The name RJ stands for Registered Jack, derived from the bell system’s USOC (Universal Service Ordering Codes) code. USOC is a series of Registered jacks and their wiring, developed by the bell system to connect a user’s device to a public network, and now defined by FCC documents.
RJ11, RJ14 and RJ25 are the same series with the same size, both are 9.5mm wide, but the number of contacts is different. RJ11 modular jack only has a middle pair of contacts, which can be connected with a pair of lines, expressed as 6P2C (six position, two conductor).RJ14 USES the middle 4 contacts, can connect 2 pairs of lines, expressed as 6P4C;The RJ25 USES all six contacts and can connect three pairs of wires, represented as 6P6C jack.

RJ11 will also be used as an interface for RS-232 (For example: Barcode Scan Engine and Reader ) or 485. Here are three examples:
Sometimes this connector can also be used to provide low-voltage low-power power supply (AC or DC), commonly used PIN2 and PIN5(black line and yellow line).
Generally, RJ11 is used as the general term of this 9.5mm series, and rj11-6p2c, rj11-6p4c and rj11-6p6c are used to distinguish the number of contacts.
A connector is also used in the phone to connect the phone and the handle, which is called 4P4C (also known as RJ22, which forms a series with RJ9 and RJ10). The RJ11 is the us standard telephone connector, while the UK has BS 6312, France has f-010, and Germany has a similar TAE connector. Austria has a tdo-connector and Poland has a wt-4.
One of the more common RJ connectors available today is the RJ45 for Ethernet connectivity, 8P8C, which can connect four pairs of twisted pair cables and is 12mm wide, which is a bit wider than the RJ11 series.RJ45 is sometimes used for telephone or RS232 connections, and also for VGA video signals.
